Billions! is a great new TV drama by Showtime, with excellent writing and very realistic characters. Bobby Axelrod, the hedge fund billionaire, seems to be a very interesting hybrid of many famous traders who is now running a large hedge fund outside New York. Chuck Rhodes, is the US district attorney, who wants to crush insider trading, and make his own mark within finance. He seeks to be the toughest "financial cop" in the market. He makes Bobby and his hedge fund the target of the law, but is not always clean himself. It is an excellent balance of what people want to do in their life or career, but struggle with every single day.
Newport Connecticut is the home of Axe Capital, a hedge fund that has a very strong influence in US markets. They hire the best and brightest trader on Wall Street. Bobby is a survivor, and an over achiever who understands every detail of his business and every angle of human thought any trader may have. It is a rare combination of skills, and has made him stand out and be a winner when many do not survive.
I thought this was just a story about Steven A. Cohen, but was wrong. It is a well written hybrid story that combines many real details from the financial market. The characters are based on real facts from Citadel, Cantor Fitzgerald, SAC, Galleon and many other real hedge funds in the market. The personalities are all very real in feel and that comes across on the small screen. TV has really been improving in quality more than movies, and this is a fine example of quality entertainment. It premiered on January 17, 2016 and is Highly recommended. See link for a free 1 hour episode. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNQiefaevZw
